Una nueva ley, que entró en vigor el pasado miércoles, requiere a los sistemas escolares en Tennessee castigar a cualquier estudiante que esté tiranizando a otro estudiante
— “Cuanto más supervisamos este tipo de situaciones con los niños, cuanto más se está implicado en ello, más se soluciona el problema", afirmó Michael Barrett, padre.

Dave Chupa de Johnson City Schools dijo que la intimidación es algo que han estado intentando prevenir desde hace tiempo.

"Vamos a tratar de pararla lo más pronto que nos sea posible “, dijo Chupa. Los expertos dicen que el bullying no tiene por qué ser violento. Los estudiantes pueden también intimidar a sus compañeros de clase a través de un mensaje de texto o de un email.

Chupa dijo que vigilarán cualquier situación en que se pueda intimidar y se determinará el tipo de castigo. Podría ser cualquier medida, desde una advertencia verbal a una suspensión.

Bajo esta nueva ley en Tennessee, se insta a los distritos escolares, no sólo se alienta, a crear reglas para prohibir el bullying. El periodista de 11 Connects Digital hablará hoy en las escuelas del área para ver cuáles son las reglas anti-bullying.

New Tennessee Law Targets Bullying In Schools

A new law went into affect on Wednesday that requires school systems throughout Tennessee to punish any student who is bullying another student.

“The more that we monitor these types of situations with children, the more we are involved with it, the more it solves the problem. said Michael Barrett, parent.

Dave Chupa with Johnson City Schools said bullying is something they’ve been trying to prevent for years.

“We’re going to try and stop it as soon as we no about it as early as we can", Chupa said.

Experts say bullying doesn’t have to be violent. Students can also bully their classmates through a text message or even an email.

Chupa said they will look into any situation that may be bullying and determine the type of punishment. He said it could be anything from a verbal warning to a suspension. Under a new law In Tennessee, school districts are required, not just encouraged, to create rules to prohibit bullying.
